Assuming this is not a trick with lights under a block of glass then...

My best guess is that the coil is a RF (Radio Frequency) induction coil. When the coil is activated it induces a harmonic resonance in the electrons of specific atoms in the block, which causes the illumination (like a florescent bulb glowing in microwaves) The vapor cloud at the end looks like sublimation of the humidity trapped in the field.
